Owenea FM 100.8

Owenea​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌ FM 100.8 is a community radio which is primarily geared towards the South West Donegal area. Hence, it is a community radio that connects small towns and villages through the rugged northwest coast of the county. The station that is broadcasted from Ardara, County Donegal provides a very necessary service to the scattered communities where radio is still very much a vital tool in the making and sustaining of connections in such dramatic coastal and mountain landscapes. 

 Programing is steeped in the traditions of Irish music and that includes sean-nós singing and fiddle tunes as well as modern Irish folk and popular music. Owenea FM is a bilingual station that broadcasts in both English and Irish (Gaeilge), thus it is a supporter of the Irish language in the region that is next to the Gaeltacht. The station deals with local and community news, community events including funeral arrangements, weather, which is very important for farming and fishing, and also local businesses and cultural activities. The radio which is in towns like Ardara, Glenties, and Killybegs, is the only source of communication that links neighbors living in places where the population is small and the area is so remote that commercial radio is not viable and yet it is still very much alive and well and plays a very important role in the lives of people in rural Ireland. ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌
